CHARACTER
Name: Kazuhira Miller
Canon: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Age: 28
Timeline: During the Peace Walker event.
Items with character at canon point: He's wearing his green military clothes and his trademark aviators. He has a Walkman with him with some music tapes and a photo of himself and the Boss on the beach together.
Personality:
Kaz comes across as a polite, well-mannered laid back kind of guy to anyone who may meet him. He is a smooth talker especially when it comes to girls and likes to think of himself as a ladies' man. His trademark aviators, which he goes nowhere without and his buffed up body, give him the appearance of an athletic guy who looks after himself. As well as his looks, Kaz is very intelligent, being versed in bush craft and survival skills.
One of Kaz's weaknesses is flirting. An example of Kaz's trademark flirting was when he tried to chat up school girl, Paz. She had arrived at Mother Base with her mentor and teacher, Professor Galvez, and Kaz instantly took an likeness to her. She was pretty and he held a hand out to her to shake, whilst she just stood there shyly looking up at him. It seemed his charm didn't work so well that time. He sometimes believes he's God's gift to women. Another time during Peace Walker was when Kaz was dating two girls at the same time and things got out of hand. Men around the base started talking about his relationships with girls and word got around to the Boss, Kaz's commander, which caused them both to have a fight in the showers. Kaz learnt that he should stick to one girl at a time and not flirt with every single female he met. It seemed he needed a punch in the face from his best friend to teach him such a lesson.
Kaz is a caring and compassionate sort of guy. He cares deeply for the soldiers around Mother Base and also for his close friend, the Boss, or Snake, as he is often known. He is never far behind his friend, giving him advice whilst he's out on missions and always giving helpful advice over the radio. This advice could be tips or skills on how to survive out in the Costa Rican wilderness. Sometimes, his advice turned out more like nagging, as he often told Snake to brush twice a day and eat healthily. This was more done as light humour more than anything else. He was only doing it because he cared for Snake's welfare and wanted him to live a happy and healthy life everyday. He also cared deeply for Paz, the school girl who he met on Mother Base. They shared some fun times together, such as when he played the guitar together with her and she sang. He tried to sing but the consequences weren't that great. He can't sing. She can.
Being a military leader like his father, Kaz has some weaknesses regarding how he looks upon life in general. He tries to come across as an open-minded sort of guy but can be viewed as quite narrow-minded. His business, Militaires sans Frontieres, is a group of mercenaries living on an island base in Costa Rica. His views on life are that all men and women should live their own lives away from the constraints of governments and corruption. Yet, some could view Kaz's business as a group of terrorists doing what they want outside of the law. Kaz doesn't believe him and Snake are doing anything wrong by being in charge of groups of mercs, performing missions and basically going against the governments and the norm. He also doesn't take no for an answer at times, believing what he believes is the right thing. This can sometimes come across as selfish, when it concerns his commander, Snake. They sort of exist within this military bubble where they've cut themselves off from the outside world. Kaz has isolated himself from the outside world by living and breathing inside of MSF.
Kaz is quite vulnerable when it comes to anyone speaking about his Japanese mother. Since she worked as a prostitute and he was born illegitimately, he doesn't like speaking about that side of his past. He's proud that he was born in Japan and proud of his Japanese descent, it's just he just doesn't like talking about his past regarding that subject. She died of a sexual disease and it still affects him to this day. Another of Kaz's fears is losing any men in combat or his comrade, Snake. When any man dies in combat it always hits him hard, as he treasures human life as sacred. He would often blame himself for their deaths because he believed he might not have given correct mission details or offered enough help.
With his military training and family background in the military, Kaz can often be quite direct with the way how he approaches things. Whether it be a mission or just everyday tasks. He's rather a straight forward talker and prefers the truth to any form of lying. Even if people get hurt by the truth, he'd rather tell it than hide things and skulk in the shadows. Being honest is something he believes in, since being born half Japanese, due to his mother, respect is something important to Kaz.

---Snake? Can you hear me, Snake? SNAKE? Answer me! [There is an annoyed sigh on the other end of the watch. Yes, a watch. Kaz was expecting a radio of some sorts but all he was given was an ornate pocket watch, which he is now clutching firmly in his right palm. Who the hell gave him this anyway? Where the hell is he? He looks around blankly at the station and realises that he isn't in Costa Rica anymore, nor is this Mother Base.
Damn.]
Can anyone hear this transmission? My name is Kazuhira Miller and I'm with MSF. Militaires sans Frontieres. I'm lost and, well....I'm in some kind of station. [He swallows thickly and tries to get his bearings. Perhaps, one of his troops will find him somehow? He is hoping that Snake, his best friend and comrade will show up and explain all of this.]
--I hope this is some kind of dream because I shouldn't be here. None of this should be here. [Was he worried? Yes? Scared? No. He is a soldier and a soldier adapts to any situation they are given.]

Kaz tried not to make too much noise, as he felt the rough fabric of his own yellow neckerchief rubbing against his tongue and mouth. Yes, he had been gagged by the enemy and was currently being held hostage, tied to a tent pole in the middle of the Costa Rican wilderness. His blond hair was wetly pressed against his sweaty forehead and his wrists burned from the rope rubbing against them. Things didn't look good for the sub commander of MSF. Where was the Boss? Snake. His close friend and leader of the outfit they were running. MSF was more than just a band of mercs in Kaz's eyes; they were running a business. A new kind of business.
None of that really mattered now, when he heard footsteps just outside of the tent door. He could hear them talking to themselves in muffled tones. None of it made any sense to Kaz, as he went to move his wrists but felt the coarse fabric of the rope cut deeper into his skin. Damn. How could he let himself get caught like this? He was a solder too! If his father knew that he had been caught like this he would be in disgrace. His father, being a colonel in the American army, would be looking down on his son right now. At least Kaz saw it that way. The blond sighed. None of this should have happened! He stretched his hearing to try and listen in on what the enemy soldiers were saying outside of the tent but no luck. Kaz's chances of escape seemed very slim right now. No form of escape and there wasn't anything to suggest that his captives were going to free him anytime soon.
His thoughts went to his comrade, Snake. Or, some called him Big Boss, as he was known. The Legendary soldier. Kaz had formed a strong friendship over the months he had known Boss and right now he really needed him. He needed his friend to bust him out of this situation. Do what the did best; work together to take down corrupt governments, dodgy merc operations and try and make the world a better place. Kaz swallowed thickly and then heard something he wasn't expecting.
Silence. Complete and utter silence. Had the two guys gone? No. It was deadly quiet. Something wasn't right. The blond felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up, as he strained every sense to try and gauge what was going on outside. It was then he heard a scraping noise, or rather, the sound of someone dragging a body across the floor. Kaz felt a pang of excitement coarse through his body. Could it be that Snake had taken the enemy out? Big Boss living up to his reputation once more? Kaz felt a cool breeze waft over his sweaty face, as he glimpsed the outline of a soldier. The silhouette of a gun in his hand and a bandana waving softly in the night air. It seemed his friend hadn't abandoned him after all. Kaz licked his dry lips and acknowledged his friend with a slow smile.
